Alfred Elijah Perkins papers, 1826-1833 (inclusive).

Chiefly disputes and compositions written while Alfred Elijah Perkins was at Yale College on topics of historical, political, and religious interest. Also included is a textbook on natural philosophy. Three letters written by Perkins to his family during the last year of his life on a journey to Madeira and Barbados are also in the papers.

Alfred Elijah Perkins was born in Norwich, Connecticut, on April 5, 1809. He was a member of the Yale College Class of 1830. After graduation, he pursued medical studies in Boston and at the University of Pennsylvania, earning his M.D. degree in 1833. Although coping with health problems, Perkins traveled to the South, then to Madeira and the West Indies. He returned home in the summer of 1834 and died on October 29 of that year.
